Argentium Sterling silver is a modern alloy which modifies the traditional alloy by replacing copper with mettaloid Germanium. As it does retain its 92.5% silver content it is still referred to as Sterling Silver.
Argentium Silver is the result of research by Peter Johns at the school of Art and Design at Middlesex University.The project began in 1990 with research on the effects of Germanium to Silver Alloys. It was dicovered that Germanium imparted the following properties to Silver:
*High Tarnish Resistance
*Both Percipitation hardening and simple heat hardening (this means that it is much harder than regular silver)
*Environmental Advantages.
